Vetta will be offering avalanche courses winter 2018-'19 on Vail Pass!

Vetta Mountain Guides has submitted applications for access to Vail Pass for winter '18-'19 for avalanche education. Whether it's a level 1 or 2 course, companion rescue, or a skills/review day in the backcountry, Vetta will give you a fun, informative, and relevant introduction to avalanche safety in one of the sketchiest snowpacks in the world--the Colorado Rockies.

Be in touch to begin planning a custom education day, review, or join one of our existing avalanche courses to continue your lifelong learning in the backcountry.

Vetta will be offering ongoing companion rescue courses, two Level 1 "Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain" courses in January, with more dates to be added in February and March. Our first level 1 course will be held January 4/5/6 on Vail Pass. The January 8/10/12/13 course will be a January 8 evening session in Boulder, Jan. 10 evening session in Boulder, with weekend field days Jan 12 and 13 on Vail Pass. For our field days, we’ll meet in Frisco, at the SOS Outreach Center, at 8 a.m.

In addition to our Colorado-based courses, we’ll be teaching a once-in-a-lifetime AIARE 2 at Ymir Lodge, in British Columbia. Rob’s longtime mentor and friend, Colin Zacharias, will deliver the curriculum he developed as a lead author. Colin is a former head guide at Canadian Mountain Holidays (Bugaboos Lodge), a snow-safety director at the Olympics (Calgary), is the Technical Director for the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE), and an examiner for the American Mountain Guides Association and the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. This AIARE 2, March 2-8, is the only recreational course Colin will teach in 2019. See details on our “Trips” page or email us for more information at info@vettamountainguides.com.

Vetta works exclusively with AIARE and delivers that organization's curricula. Vetta owner, Rob Coppolillo, is a contributing editor and writer for the new AIARE recreational curriculum to be introduced in winter of '18-'19. AIARE was founded by mountain guides and remains the most up-to-date and current avalanche program for recreationists. We love working with AIARE and we're proud to have been part of helping AIARE develop its new Recreational curriculum in 2017.
